The size of a document or dictionary is limited only by the amount of memory on your machine. If you are using System 7 or higher, Excalibur will use any free memory on your machine to load large documents or dictionaries, or to perform dictionary conversions. Quitting other applications will make more memory available to Excalibur. Under System 6 you may need to increase Excalibur's memory partition.
Under System 6, here is what to do if Excalibur complains about not having enough memory to open a document, load a dictionary, or to perform a dictionary conversion. Quit Excalibur and highlight its icon on the desktop. Select Get Info from the File menu. Make the current size of Excalibur larger.
To set the optimal partition size under all versions of the system software, use the following formula. Compute the total size of all your dictionaries and add 500K. For example, if the dictionaries you are using have a total size of 1,000,000K, set Excalibur's memory partition to 1,500,000K.
